Lichens... Boulders...

I love the boulders out West... some as big as your car, some as big as the largest room in your house! I like to stand next to them, climb on top of them, study the designs of the lichens and the weathering over the millenia.

Outside the Box...

In Yellowstone: This is what happens when, after a long day of seeing the sights, on the way back to your cabin... you spot a Moose. A MOOSE! This is the first one I've seen on this trip. It's close to the side of the road... but it's dark, much too dark to take a photograph. Handheld, long exposure... result: an abstract looking photo, but I can tell it's a moose and I have many good memories from this photo.

Going back...

Technically, this is not a great photo... but it captures one of the most exciting days of my life. This Grizzly was walking down the road, just in front of the parking area for Trout Lake in the Lamar Valley of Yellowstone. As I approached in my car, from behind, he crossed over into the treeline and then went down into the valley. He was heading West at a rather good pace, not paying much attention to anything but his destination. I heard, later, that a Griz was seen on a carcass in the western part of the valley that afternoon, so I suspect this is the Griz and that was his goal.

White-tail Deer on a snowy Valentine's Day morning

The white-tails were abundant away from the flooded low areas along the Maumee River this morning. I had a nice early walk as the newly fallen snow covered the ground.

Selmipalmated Plover (juvenile)

A nice first for me, a juvenile Semipalmated Plover makes a stopover on it's autumn migratory route.

Whitetail Doe portrait

This whitetail doe gives me that curious but cautious stare... (I love the long eyelashes).

I can't get enough views of this impressive whitetail!

It's so nice to take a morning walk and get to see such an impressive animal such as this one.

Whitetails... on a cool morning...

Monster Buck of 2006

Yes, it's been a long while since I've done any updating. Here's to rectifying that situation.

Foliage Framed Whitetail Buck

This whitetail buck spied out at me from the foliage in the last light of the day.

Whitetail Doe and Fawn

This image was taken in the same area as the previous "Sunscape" photo. I watched these two as I was hidden behind foliage along the creekbed. They came out of the forest, feeding, along with another doe. The fawn was spunky, as this was in the evening as the air cooled, and was prancing around playfully. To my right, a man and his children started to approach, loudly talking as they came and this is what gathered the fawn to its mother's side. A nice portrait I think!

Sunscape

For something a little different from my normal images... I tried to capture the morning light filtering down into the forest. No wildlife in this photo... but their WERE whitetails along the bank behind me, watching me as I worked my camera and lense.

Lesser Yellowlegs

I hope I identified this bird correctly. I'm a beginner birder and still learning. Along the banks of the Maumee River, last month.

Whitetail reflection...

Took this one on an island in the Maumee River, last week. I like the reflection and I'm hoping to get take more images similar to this in the future.
